More eye care managers graduating...

Another eight Community Eye Health managers obtained their Postgraduate Diploma in Community Eye Health (PgDCEH) in 2011. Although seemingly a small number, the PgDCEH helps to ensure that there is a steady increase in trained community eye health (CEH) managers in the sub-Saharan African region. The shortage of managers in CEH in the region is critical, resulting in poor service delivery, especially to the blind and poor.

Eight more PgDCEH graduates!

PgDCEH 2010 graduatesEight more students obtained their Postgraduate Diploma in Community Eye Health (PgDCEH) in 2010. The PgDCEH is a unique programme that trains participants in Vision 2020 programme management. Vision 2020 is an initiative which aims to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020. The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), in collaboration with the World Health Organisation launched this initiative in 1999. Click here to read more...

Ophthalmology registrars ready for community eye health!

Registrars' workshop participants 2009The 6th annual Registrars Vision 2020 Workshop was held at the CEHI Training Centre from 13 to 15 April 2010. The lead faculty was Dr Karin Lecuona. CEHI Director receives Citizen’s Award

Mr Minnies, CEHI DirectorThe Director of the Community Eye Health Institute, Mr Deon Minnies, was honoured by the Ophthalmic Society of South Africa (OSSA) for the role he played in preventing blindness in South Africa. Mr Minnies received the award, the Citizen's Award, during the Grand Dinner of the OSSA Congress which was held at Sun City. Click here to read more...


First graduates of the UCT CEHI!

PgDCEH class of 2009At the final graduation ceremony of the 2009 academic year of the University of Cape Town (UCT), the first three students being capped were Elvis Chipili, Simon Nantang and Marie Raveloson. Eye care programme management for Africa

Thirteen students from six countries in AfricaThirteen students from six countries in Africa completed a 10 week community eye health certificate course on 2 October. This is the fifth annual certificate course that has been run at UCT, and a total of 71 students from 18 African countries have been trained since 2005. Click here to read more...
